Tapestry, National Gallery, London

Amidst all the masters, this colourful woven tapestry by modern day artist Chris Ofili.
"The title echoes the writer and black activist Maya Angelou's powerful autobiography,
I Know Why the Cage Bird Sings."
Simply brilliant.
"The tapestry is hung against a painted mural. A sequence of swaying
monumental temple dancers entices the visitor towards the richly coloured wall-hanging."

A room with a view

The morning view from our window on Leather Lane, London:
Dogs and suits. How very British.

Brugge Belfry

It's an old tall tower and takes 365 steps to get up it. We were all pooped while enjoying the view. Glad we had the three flights of stairs in the Paris apartment to climb daily in order to prepare for this.

Lovely house, Lissewege, Belgium

First day biking from Brugge to Blankenberg and this house caught my eye.
Or perhaps it was the roses.

Brugge, Belgium

It's like stepping on to a movie set or being in a time warp. Everywhere one looks in Brugge it's this picture perfect view.

Brugge and wood facades

What I learned today is that houses didn't always have brick. In Mediaeval times the buildings had wood fronts.

Windmills, Brugge

And I thought they only existing in the Netherlands. How silly of me.

Bike parking in Brugge

Underground parking for bicycles. What a great idea. Brugge is a very bike friendly city. Everyone bikes. I love the hanging bikes lit up.

Monet at Musée de l'Orangerie in Jardin Tuileries

A smaller museum that showcases Monet's water lilies. I headed here first thing this morning. He created these large canvases in his 80's with the vision that they would hang here. Incredibly tranquil spot. Good place to meditate

Covered 19th century shopping arcades

Paris has a few of these and the are lovely to wander through and think of times past and how people created environments that were elegant and functional.
